Chanda
Chanda
Organic technology. Probably the best two-word description of the direction this Indian Rosewood chambered solid-body guitar took on its journey toward existence. This theme-based build was the ultimate collaboration between builder and client. With over 200 emails exchanged, countless phone calls, many visits and more design revisions than I'd like to remember, this truly was a joint build in an effort to produce the perfect guitar for RiP.
Chanda is the Indian word for, "Moon", as well as the name of RiP's female Suriname Red-Tailed Boa Constrictor. The guitar features a constellation of 'stars' made up of three hundred, fifty-eight pieces of red/white/UV LED-lit fiber optics in the shape and colors of RiP's pet snake, appropriately positioned to stare at the moon and planets on the fretboard. The planets light up in two different selectable color schemes and the fiber and planets have their own separate dimmer controls on the upper horn. The headstock laminate is bird's-eye maple, and comprises a photo-realistic inlay of the Boa's actual head color pattern. An inlayed "V" of Purple Heart wood adorns the sculpted back of this guitar. All control cavity access panels are made of the same rosewood as the body, which fit like a puzzle. This guitar also features a modified Shadow Double Play acoustic pickup/pre-amp system with Fishman Powerchip for buffered and stereo output, a built-in chromatic tuner, and a simple analog headphone pre-amp. The guitar is loaded with 3 different types of batteries to power its lights, headphone amp and 2 preamps.
