Dan’s new bass was conceived one afternoon at the counter of my shop.  I was in the middle of something (I think I was talking to another customer, but don’t really remember now) when Dan came in holding a couple of sheets of paper.  It took me a minute before I realized that he was holding pics and specs for the basis of a new custom bass.

    The Aqua Goddess (as Dan’s wife has affectionately dubbed it) is based loosely on an old Ibanez headless design they produced for a couple of years in the mid 80’s.  The new bass only resembles the old in a few lines and contours now, but the spirit is still in there somewhere.  As we got further into the design it got further from its base.  I must admit that I was not in love with the design for my tastes.  It was a great design and I thought would make Dan very happy for years to come, but, like all the good projects, it grew on me until I realized that I kind of wanted to keep it.  The sign of a job well done I suppose.  Enjoy the photos.
